There is one thing that martial arts is always associated with, and that is hand to hand combat. While not entirely incorrect, traditional martial arts have evolved to be more of an art form used for expression and instilling discipline onto the self and the students. Before giving input to this allegation, one has to examine why martial arts appeared in the first place. Human history has been plagued with warfare, and martial arts served as a way to win hand to hand combat with the enemy, in case it ever came to it. Today’s traditional martial arts lack a crucial element, and that is sparring that closely mimics actual combat along with a competitive environment that combat sports have.
