Materialism is the biggest driving factor in our society. Everyone wants the most expensive things as resources has always been essential to survival. With survival resources such as food and clean water in abundance in modern society, people are now wanting the finer things in life. Why do they do this? Everyone wants to appear to be better than everyone. It’s all a game of social status.
Materialism is seen quickly in children, who all want the popular objects, and clothing. They will often have arguments on who in the group has the most money or best stuff. If they see someone in the group with poorer clothing, they will often make fun of them. This phenomenon seems to occur in all social classes.
