Arguments sometimes escalate into something more than a verbal disagreement. This is for one reason only, and that is because it is provoking when a person does not agree with your opinion. When a person is angry, the ability to rationally think goes down the more angry the person is.
Provoking an angry person will just lead them to attempt to escalate things. In a way, either directly or indirectly, provoking someone can be an attack on the person’s pride as you are essentially challenging them to do something. In addition, you may make them angry enough for them to reach their boiling point. When the other person has serious potential to cause injury, it is not in your best interest to provoke them.
